Girona, Spain – FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has admitted his side is “not in a good moment” after Monday’s defeat against Girona FC, a result that cost them the LaLiga top spot.
Despite controversy surrounding a possible foul on Jules Koundé in the build-up to Girona’s decisive 2-1 goal, Flick refused to use the incident as an excuse.
“I don’t want to talk about it because everyone has seen the situation,” Flick said. “Girona deserved it in the second half. They created many chances, and we defended especially poorly in transition because we were too open.”
The German coach also revealed that the post-match explanation from referee César Soto Grado did not fully convince him. However, he stressed that discussing refereeing decisions would seem like an excuse given Barcelona’s overall performance.
Flick acknowledged that his players appeared fatigued and lacked sharpness but called for greater determination moving forward.
“We need hunger to win every match,” he emphasized.
The defeat comes shortly after Barcelona’s heavy 4-0 loss to Atlético Madrid in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals, making the Girona clash even more crucial.
To reset mentally and physically, Flick has granted the squad two days off, urging them to return with a renewed mindset. He reminded supporters that a football season is a long journey and insisted Barcelona still has time to regain top form and fight for silverware.
As the LaLiga title race intensifies, questions now surround Barcelona’s consistency, defensive transitions, and squad depth — but Flick remains confident his team can bounce back.
